Think (and work) like a forest
Embrace the forest way of doing: be open, accessible, diverse, interconnected and adaptive.
What can we learn from nature’s way of working and thinking?
As humans we have always looked up to nature for guidance and inspiration. Everything that surrounds us has been, in one way or another, made or inspired by nature. We just need to look at our architecture, technology, medicine, engineering, fashion, transportation… and we soon realise that nature plays a key role in helping humans find the solution, move forward and innovate.
In the business world, nature is often seen as a mere provider of goods and resources. And sadly in many cases gets overlooked, neglected and even threatened.
But what about the things that we can’t see, touch or collect? What can we learn from nature’s way of working and thinking?
Today we want to introduce you our new venture. Over the last 20 years we have been developing innovation software for companies around the world. During that time we worked across multiple industries and markets, but we discovered common problems and challenges were emerging. Somewhere along the journey we decided to take a step back and ask ourselves: how does nature think, work and innovate? and what can we learn from it?
We were inspired by the way forests work: sharing resources and knowledge for the benefit of all, using a network of underground filaments called hyphae.
And so Hypha was born, with the mission to unlock the power of innovation within teams and communities using software. Hypha is a knowledge tool for teams to think, work and innovate together. Through a simple to use interface, different teams can come together and analyse markets, spot new trends, discuss topics, generate ideas and innovate from the inside out.

Like a forest, Hypha maps and connects all your knowledge in whichever way your organisation or team thinks, and independently of the platforms or tools you are already using. Every business, organisation and community has the potential to become a thriving forest. And we think we can help you with that.
The Forest Thinking Manifesto
Or how to think, adapt and innovate like a forest.
Build collective intelligence within teams, businesses and communities
At Hypha we also created a Manifesto that outlines how forests think, and how can we use that in the business world. These concepts can be broadly applied, from the individual, to the team or the entire organisation.
A forest thinking company is:
Creativity is a human quality that exists in every single one of us. Everyone in an organisation has the power to innovate and plant new ideas into the forest. Be open and give everyone a voice, from the intern to the CEO.
You can easily get lost in a forest, so it’s crucial to map your knowledge and help your teams explore it, understand it and contribute to it as it grows.
3. Universally diverse
We all share the same universal goal while being uniquely different. Encouraging diversity in teams and thinking brings new perspectives and drives innovation.
Solutions often come from unexpected places. Making sure all your teams are interconnected will allow for those sparks to happen. Be pragmatic, break the silos and connect (the dots) with purpose.
The world never stops moving and businesses need to understand that adaptation and transformation is necessary to respond to the ever changing environment.
Symbiosis is a powerful force in nature and in business. Companies must embrace cross-disciplinary approaches where different teams and skills come together to solve specific problems.
See the wood and the trees. You can get a better understanding when you can see the forest from multiple lenses, and understand everyone’s role and impact in the ecosystem.
You can’t be fully prepared for the future. But building a collective intelligence from past experiences is the best way to face the future.
At Hypha we believe creativity and innovation are inside all of us, and we want to help people use that power to steer confidently into the future.
See you in the woods.
